While in Hiroshima we took a ferry ride to Miyajima.
This is one of the most photographed images in Japan.

We HAD to climb to the top and after a few false starts on the wrong trails we headed up and up and up.

The climb was worth it.
What a view.

Luckily we'd done our homework and planned our arrival at high tide.
By the time we reached the top the tide was out and the Tori is not so spectacular in the mud.

Our plan was to hike to the top and take a tram back down but...
by the time we got to the top the tram had stopped and two disappointed and tired girls, uncomplaining, trudged back down as the twilight set in.

The timing was just right to see the lights of Hiroshima on our return ferry ride.
Another memorable day.
